Reflections Med Spa now offers one of the most popular dermal fillers in the world. Juvederm is an injectable that quickly smoothes away fine lines, creases and wrinkles and returns a youthful glow to aging skin. The main ingredient of Juvederm is hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally made by your body that helps keep soft tissues and skin hydrated. In fact, HA has an incredible ability to attract water molecules and retain them. As we age, your body makes less and less of HA, which is the primary reason your facial skin wrinkles and loses its firmness.
What Can Juvederm Do For My Skin?
Juvederm's manufacturer offers different types of Juvederm to address age-related skin problems and sun damage. In addition to plumping and smoothing away wrinkles, Juvederm can also:
Give you fuller, more contoured lips
Reduce visible creasing alongside the nose (nasiolabial folds)
Erase vertical lip lines
Eliminate forehead wrinkles
Provide minimal facial contouring without surgery
Currently, you can choose among several Juvederm injectables such as Volbella XC, Voluma XC, Ultra XC and Ultra 2,3 and 4 and. Each Juvederm solution is formulated to treat specific skin issues. For example, Volbella or Ultra XC are designed to plump up lips while Voluma XC is recommended for more severe facial wrinkling and folding.
How Does Juvederm Work?
Juvederm is a transparent gel that is injected into the layer of skin called the dermis. The dermis lies just below the surface of the skin and contains oil glands and connective tissue needed to keep your skin supple and hydrated. As soon as Juvederm is injected into the dermis, the HA molecules start attracting water molecules that give you skin the fullness and elasticity it loses from sun damage and the aging process. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally biocompatible with the body, it is ultimately absorbed by your body over an extended period of time.
Touch-up Juvederm injections are typically not needed for nine to 12 months. However, how long a Juvederm treatment continues to give you desired results depends on several factors. Your cosmetic dermatologist will discuss those factors with you during your initial consultation.
What Can I Expect After a Juvederm Injection at Chicago Med Spa?
Most people experience slight swelling and redness at the injection site. Swelling and redness are typically worse around sensitive areas like the lips and eyelids. Minimal bruising may occur, but bruising is light enough to be concealed with cosmetics. You can help reduce swelling and redness by:
Applying an ice pack on the injection site
Avoiding use of aspirin, ibuprofen or Aleve one week before your treatment
Avoiding use of topical creams containing retinols, glycolic acid or Retin-A three day before treatment
Not drinking alcohol 24 hours before treatment
Juvederm injections should not prevent you from going to work or performing daily tasks unless you want to take a few days off because of the expected swelling and redness.
