Celebrate National Healthy Skin Month: How to Care for Your Epidermis

At Reflections Med Spa, we can’t overstate just how important it is to keep up with your skin. This isn’t just about how you look either. Your skin is the first layer of protection for your body. The stronger it is, the more it will be able to defend against anything from infection to abrasions.

This Chicago Med Spa looks at what you can do during this all-important month to care for your epidermis.

1. Sunscreen

Applying sunscreen is a simple habit that should be added to our routines. The benefits of blocking UVA and UVB rays can help prevent everything from sun spots to skin cancer.

We especially recommend sunscreen if you’re taking any kind of retinol or retinoid. While both topical treatments can nourish the skin and help keep it clear and firm, it may also increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.

2. ALASTIN Products

The ALASTIN family of skincare products are designed to keep your cells functioning in tip-top condition:

  • Restorative Eye Treatment: Winning the award for “Best Anti-Aging Eye Cream” from inStyle, this product fights back against dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness.

  • Restorative Neck Complex: This product supports your body’s production of collagen and elastin. From chin to chest, it can help you reduce wrinkles and increase hydration.

  • Regenerating Skin Nectar: This product is recommended if you’ve had any cosmetic procedures. Designed to reduce the amount of down-time, it’s water-free and preservative-free to heal the skin.

  • Restorative Skin Complex: The skin complex from ALASTIN is packed with antioxidants and able to target skin blemishes and discoloration.

3. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is not just the removal of dead skin cells. It’s the peach fuzz on your skin and the facial hair that plagues you. People are shocked at just how much there is to be found under all those layers!

At our Chicago med spa, we recommend either of the following treatments for this month:

  • HydraFacial: A HydraFacial uses a swirling technique to remove debris while soothing your skin at the same time. It’s extraction, exfoliation, and a chemical peel all in one.

  • Dermaplaning: This procedure uses a small scalpel to essentially shave your whole face. The result is a youthful glow and easier application of any facial product.

Get in the Spirit

The best way to care for your skin is to pay attention to it. Whether you buy more sunscreen or make an appointment with a Chicago med spa, Reflections encourages you to do a little more this month to protect it.
